Correction, Correction, Read all about it:
In a previous blog post, when we were in Schrobenhausen, we took a selfie with what we thought to be a trash waste center. However, in an email from an anonymous reader (aka Zia's papa Karl) we found out that it is actually a recycling facility for paper that then turns it into more paper. #moreinteresting #stillsmelledbad
Back to the here and now...
Our second day in Berlin started off with some homemade bread and a trip to the outdoor Market nearby. We thought it would just be fruit and veggie stands, but it was sooo much more. There were vendors with all kinds of food, clothes, jewelry, and yummy looking bakeries making stuff right in their stands! #whataboomwhatabang
After that we navigated the U-bahn system in Berlin for the first time, ending up at the Jewish Museum in Kreuzberg. The building itself was mesmerizing, physically leading you around in zig zags throughout Jewish history in Germany. There were empty spaces built into the museum, creating voids with only a little natural light from the outside world that were meant to signify the missing Jews in Germany. The stories told in the museum were deeply personal and made us realize how much history we're encountering and living in, right here in Berlin.
The photo below shows the Garden of Exile, an outdoor space with dozens of leaning towers, planted with Russian olive trees on top. The whole exhibit was made to make you feel disoriented, the ground itself was slanted, making you feel slightly sick as you walked between the rows of concrete columns.
After spending hours in the museum, we explored the neighborhood a bit more, walking into cute little shops and cafés. We finally chose to lunch at 4:30, picking what we thought was a sweet little Vietnamese restaurant. After sitting down and enjoying a few bites of our food, we noticed a big poster behind us, which also happened to be the only decoration hanging on any of the walls. This poster was of a naked woman. It didn't surprise us as much as it might have upon our arrival, as we have encountered many ads and pictures featuring fully nude women- on buildings, in department stores, on postcards, and now, in cute restaurants too!

Word of the Day:
Die Konditorei: Pastry Shop
In New York, gibt es ein Cafe dass Konditorei heißt. Heute, haben wir viele Konditoreien im Markt gesehen. Konditoreien haben mehr süße Backwaren dann Bäckereien haben. Bäckereien haben mehr Brot und Brezeln. Wir mögen beide. Backwaren und Brot sind so lecker hier und sie sind überall.
