Where do we even begin... #honestq

This morning, and by morning we mean from 12:30-4am last night, was cray. We went to Berlin's hottest club #cassiopeia. There was a 70 year old DJ (okay fine, #exaggeration, but he did have gray hair!) playing pre-teen punk rock, the biggest disco ball in the world, a smokey tent filled with punks, and a silent disco. It was also located in a skate park slash rock climbing wall area slash street artist graffiti space. So obviously, it was très cool. We strutted in smelling of medicine strawberry wine flavor, ready to take on whatever came our way, and so Zia quickly got into a tiny shoving match with a man in the coat check "line" (aka mob).

We started off in the punk rock room, dancing our hearts out to "Mr. Brightside" along with a bunch of 35 year old men around us (who knew every single word to every single song that was played). We attempted to start a mosh pit at one point, but it really just turned into us pushing innocent dancers around us, so we quickly gave up. We headed over to the silent disco instead. Everyone was given a set of headphones upon entering, so that they could choose one of three stations, playing very different music, to tune into. When you first walked in, everything was silent, but as soon as you put on the headphones, you were taken to another world. There was no music playing in the room, you just heard the sounds from your headphones and people singing loudly around you. The funny thing was that there were competing groups of dancers and singers because not everyone was tuned into the same station at once. At one point, we took off our headphones and it was totally silent, but then a couple seconds later, half the room erupted in singing, "your sex is on fire." At another point, one of the stations was playing the Macarena, so we joined a bunch of people around us in dance. The other side of the room was boppin' their heads to the beat of another tune. After dancing for four hours, we decided it was time to go home, but only after paying a visit to our favorite photo booth on the way back. #itwasapartyinBerlin #notquitelikeapartyintheUSA #nocowboyboots #ormileycyrus

Our second morning today, after some sleep, started off with us going to a really cool flea market. They had everything from kitchen appliances, to books, records, clothing, tons of mini backpacks, and food! We bought matching shirts because our matching hats and gloves aren't enough. There were so many people there, we decided to find another place for lunch.

We ended up finding a really nice Indian restaurant, which turned out to be a great decision because we made our first Berlin friend! Our waiter took special interest in us, shook our hands, and ended up inviting us to come back to Berlin next year, despite Zia (magically) breaking a glass at lunch. #casual #theglassdidntevenfalloffthetable #rawstrength

After our bellies were warm and full, we headed to the Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe. On the ground level, there are hundreds and hundreds of concrete blocks of different heights and sizes. It's designed on a simple grid, but it's so easy to get completely lost in the maze of concrete. Underneath the memorial, there's a museum about the Holocaust. The most touching and powerful part about the whole thing were all of the personal stories and experiences of real people and families who lived during the Holocaust, including some letters that were written to loved ones right before their deaths.

When we got out of the museum, it was already dark, since it gets dark at 5 pm every day here, but we trudged on to Brandenburg Tor (gate). #slightlynorthernEuropeproblems #andeverywhereatthislatitudetoo #winter
It was enormous, had humungo pillars, and a giant green statue with horses running at you on top of it (there were also some other non-green non-fake horses running at you on the street). It was also in a super fancy neighborhood in Berlin where we could not find any coffee. Here it is:

We then stopped by the Reichstag building, a really overpowering government building, which was just a few streets away from the Brandenburg Tor.

On our journey to find the closest U-bahn station and coffee shop, we accidentally happened upon the fanciest street in the fanciest neighborhood in the fanciest city in the fanciest country in the fanciest continent in the fanciest world in the fanciest universe... aka Unter den Linden. We decided to be fancy ourselves by singing "Sk8er Boi" in its entirety as we were walking down the street. We must've thought we were still in the silent disco where no one else could hear us, but we were wrong. Some people stared, but some people tried to book us for their next super hip and talented concert. #ziastonedeaf #wemadeitwork #itsanewtrend #wereallyaregood
We sang a lot of old hits including "A Thousand Miles," "So Sick," "For You I Will," "Irreplaceable," and the song that our brilliant blog title is from (can you guess the song?!). Comment your answer!! #interactiveblogging

We ended the day by having a nice dinner with Lars on Simon Dach Straße, a very hip street in a very hip neighborhood. We made him take a picture of us because we were wearing such bright dresses too! Look at us (and the lamps) glow:

Word of the Day
