Night at the Museum

It's been over 24 hours since our last post (scandal!), going through withdrawal yet? We are! So here we are again. Yay!

This morning started off with a goofy twist. We decided to play some classics while getting ready this morning, since we had the entire apartment to ourselves, and were singing "Welcome to My Life" by Simple Plan because we're still angsty pre-teens. While exiting the building, we were singing the line "no one ever stabbed you in the back," when we opened the door and screamed that into two people's faces. They giggled (kinda) and we scurried off to the New Synagogue.

The New Synagogue is built out of the remains of an old synagogue that stood in it's place, but was destroyed by the Nazi's in WWII. It also happens to be in a great neighborhood that we really enjoyed walking around in. Below is a picture of the New Synagogue.

Afterwards, we went to a Thai restaurant (more tofu and rice please) for lunch. Zia proved herself once again not worthy of being taken out, when she spilled an entire glass of Coke while adamantly telling a story. #whoops #wedidntknowthewordforspillingerman #wearechildren

When we were done cleaning up after ourselves, we headed to the Natural History Museum of Berlin, a.k.a. Idalia's playhouse. We were greeted by the largest dinosaur in any museum in the world, with its neck craning over us and its tiny head meters (Zia's meters) above us. The museum also had an entire room filled with beautiful minerals from around the world. Zia argued that the most beautiful minerals were from New Mexico, but that's up for debate. Idalia didn't want to choose favorites, as there is no such thing as an ugly mineral.

If we weren't famous enough from our blog already (#readinmorethanonecountryaroundtheworld), we are serious celebs now. We watched a video about the solar system in the museum and had our 15 minutes (more like nanoseconds) of fame when our faces were projected on a huge screen hovering above us that kept creeping closer and closer to our faces. #coolbutscary #everyoneknowsusnow #madesomefriendswiththeoldwheezingmanlyingnexttous #berlinhistorybookswilltalkaboutus

After a few other rooms filled with stuffed animals (including our boy Bobby, the gorilla) we happened upon the scariest room of anything in the history of the world.

#nuffsaid

All of these jars are filled with mysterious liquids and creepy dead fish. and eels. and other water animals of various shapes and sizes that were not recognizable because they were all white, had no eyes, and were dead. To make it even better, the room was dimly lit, freezing cold, and not a single person was in sight. We only had wet dead animals to keep us company. #besideseachother #duh #wewereholdinghands
Look how happy we were:

After the museum we had a quick coffee and cake stop #wheninRome and then came home to make dinner. We soon ran off to meet Linus, a friend of Idalia's, for the bar-hopping adventure of a lifetime.

The first thing we saw, when walking into the first bar we went to, was a sign that said, "ich liebe meine vagina" and a drawing of a hairy naked woman with the word "power" written on her underwear. We immediately felt at home. #goodpickLinus

A beer later and after discovering that there was no bathroom, we headed off to the second (and last) bar of the night. We learned a lot about German there. Linus' Freundin (girlfriend) joined us and that's when we discovered that we've actually been telling everyone that we're each other's girlfriend. The problem is, is that there is no clear distinction between "girl friend" and "girlfriend" in German ("Freundin" works for both). Apparently, how we've been using the word leads people to believe that we're in a relationship. #yolo #wepullitoff

We had such a great evening and it was so nice to see Linus again and to meet his girlfriend. #bestphilosophersinDeutschland

All our hopping has made us tired. Schlaft Gut!

Word of the Day:

ausschütten = to spill something

  1. Thank you for your word of the day! I needed this word the other day because i schüttete a bunch of maple syrup aus on the floor and I was worried that my room mates were going to be like, why is our entire apartment sticky? But I didn't know what I would say. Luckily, no one confronted me anyway.
